3 guilty pleas entered in Howard County criminal court
Three guilty, or true, pleas were taken last Wednesday in the regular day for criminal court here.
On the bench was Judge Tom Cooper.
A guilty plea was given by Cedrick Williams, 41, black male, Stamps, who was charged with possession of marijuana, a class D felony. he was sentenced to six years in the Arkansas Department of Correction, but was deferred to Drug Court. If he successfully completes the program he will not have to serve the ADC term.
A guilty plea was given by Derek E. Wright, 45, black male, Nashville, charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm, a class B felony, enhanced by being a habitual criminal. Wright was represented by the public defender. The habitual criminal designation was taken off the charges in return for a guilty plea. He was sentenced to 10 years in the ADC with two years suspended.
A true plea was given by Deanna D. Wilson, 22, white female, De Queen, charged with failure to meet the terms of her probation on an August 2011 conviction for theft of property, class C felony. She is to return Jan. 16 for formal sentencing which is expected to be four years in the ADC with two years suspended.
Not guilty pleas were give by six persons.
Steven Loment Bailey, 30, black male, Texarkana, Ark., will have a trial date of Feb. 26, 2013. He is charged with bringing tobacco, a prohibited substance, into the jail when returning from a work detail. It is a Class C felony.
Deangelo Coulter, 17, black male, Nashville, pleaded not guilty and will be represented by the public defender in his March 26 trial on charges of commercial burglary, class C felony, and misdemeanor theft of property.
His alleged accomplice in a break-in of a Center Point store, Dominique Trevon Brumfield, also 17 and a black male, Nashville, was ordered to return Dec. 19 with his attorney. His trial date was set for March 26. He also is charged with commercial burglary, class C felony, and misdemeanor theft of property.
A not guilty plea was also given by Corey M. Beavers, 30, black male, 315 E. Russell, Nashville, charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm, a class B felony. Pretrial motions will be heard Feb. 6.
Justin D. Hopkins, 19, black male, 811 W. Pope, Nashville, pleaded not guilty to a class D felony charge of possessing marijuana with purpose of delivery. Pretrial motions will be heard Jan. 9. he will be represented by the public defender.
Harold Hinds, 41, white male, Murfreesboro, pleaded not guilty to possessing methamphetamines with purpose of delivery, a class B felony, and possessing drug paraphernalia, class D felony. Pretrial motions will be heard Feb. 6. He will be represented by Public Defender Aaron Brasel.
Two persons made first appearances before the judge, and two were reset or ordered back for review.
