3 sentenced in Howard County court
Three defendants pleaded guilty and were sentenced, last Wednesday in the regular day for criminal court here. On the bench was Judge Tom Cooper.
Charged in three separate criminal cases was Jerald L. Brewer, 36, black male, Horatio. One case was class C felony non-support; one was class D felony second degree battery; and one was class C felony furnishing or possessing prohibited articles (in jail). He was sentenced to four, eight and eight years, respectively, in the Arkansas Department of Correction (ADC) to be served concurrently; Restitution will be determined within 30 days. He was represented by the public defender.
Justin D. Hopkins, 19, black male, Nashville, pleaded guilty in two separate cases including class C felony delivery of marijuana; and class D felony possessing marijuana with purpose of delivering. He was sentenced to four years in the ADC on each charge to be served concurrently.
A guilty play was given by Jamie Vinyard, 41, white male, Dierks, charged with class D felony possession of methamphetamines. He was sentenced to six years of probation plus a fine of $1,000.
Four persons pleaded not guilty to felony charges and were assigned trial dates.
Torrico D. Hawthorne, 29, black male, 507 S. Seventh, Nashville, will be represented by the public defender. He is charged with misdemeanor disorderly conduct, misdemeanor resisting arrest, and class D felony aggravated assault of a certified law enforcement officer. Pretrial motions will be heard March 13.
LaQuonia Hopkins, 25, black female, 509 E. Henderson, pleaded not guilty to class D felony aggravated assault, class D felony, and misdemeanor criminal mischief. She will be represented by the public defender, and her trial date was set for March 26. Her bond was reduced to $5,000.
Pretrial motions will be heard Feb. 6 for Al D. Bullock, 59, black male, Nashville, facing two counts of negligent homicide. He will be represented by the public defender. Bond was reduced to $50,000.
A not guilty plea was also given by Morris Wilferdo Heard, 43, black male, Texarkana, Ark., charged with tampering with evidence, class D felony, and obstruction of governmental operations, class C felony; also, driving on an expired license, a misdemeanor. Pretrial mtions will be heard March 13.
Eight cases were continued, citing the hiring of an attorney, time for a drug screening, or returning for formal arraignment.
