Obituary: Ava Nell Harris

Ava Nell Harris, age 98 of Nashville, Ark., passed away, Friday, Jan. 11, 2013 in Nashville. She was born May 30, 1914 in Patmos, Ark., to the late Claude and Erma Esther Green Hinton.

Mrs. Harris was a member of the Sunset Church of Christ in Nashville. She was a retired school teacher of over 20 years, a member of the Daughters of American Revolution, Howard Memorial Hospital Lady’s Auxiliary, member of Delta Kappa Gamma, and the Howard County Extension Homemakers Club, as well as numerous other clubs and activities. She was well known in the area for all of volunteering in all of the different clubs and organizations.

Preceding her in death was her husband, James Otis Harris in 1978. Also, two brothers, a sister, a stepson, James Harris, Jr., and 1 daughter-in-law, Betty Harris.

Her survivors include: her son, Kenneth Harris of Eldorado, Ark.; a daughter-in-law, Rita Harris of Arkadelphia, Ark.; two nephews, James “Tiny” Lewis of Nashville, Ark., and Joe Kinney of Texas; two nieces, Mary Lynn Betz of Texas, and Shirley Hinton of Little Rock, Ark.; four grandsons, Jimmy Harris and wife Pat, of Bryant, Ark., Greg Harris of Little Rock, Ark., Kenny Harris and wife Donna, of Shreveport, La., and Jeffery Harris and wife Jane, of Conway, Ark.; eight great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, and a host of other family and friends.

Services were Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Nashville Funeral Home with Bob Jamison and David Williams officiating. Interment followed in Restland Memorial Park under the direction of Nashville Funeral Home. The family received friends on Saturday night from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
