Area players named to ‘Gazette’ All-Star team
Five area senior high school players have earned post-season honors from the Texarkana Gazette newspaper.
Murfreesboro High School Rattler senior quarterback Peter Saygnaphay has been named the paper’s Southwest Arkansas Offensive Player of the Year. Saygnaphay led the Rattlers to a 9-5 season by passing for 1,874 yards and 24 touchdowns and rushing for 1,860 yards and 20 touchdowns.
Mineral Springs High School Hornet senior Derrick Muldrow earned the paper’s title of Southwest Arkansas Defensive Player of the Year for the second year in a row. Muldrow’s season included 162 tackles, seven quarterback sacks and five forced fumbles. He also had an interception returned for six points.
Also recognized by the Texarkana Gazette were Nashville High School Scrapper senior quarterback Joel Hendry and junior lineman Cameron Alexander, who were both named to the paper’s All-Area Offense team while Mineral Springs Hornet senior defender, Larry Hinton, earned the All-Area Defense team.
