Obituary: Donald J. Manning
Donald J. Manning, 79, of Umpire, died Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013 in Nashville.
He was born Aug. 26, 1933 in the Belton community, the son of the late “Doc” Harvey Manning and Sarah Lane Manning.
He was a retired superintendent of Umpire Schools, past member of the Howard Memorial Hospital Board of Directors, on the Board of Directors for Rich Mountain Electric Coop for 38 years, First National Bank Board of Directors for 28 years, a pioneer of the Umpire Volunteer Fire Dept, and served in the Army during the Korean War.
He was preceded in death by first wife, Jane Manasco; two brothers; and four sisters.
Survivors include: his wife, Peggy Manning of Umpire; two sons, Charles Manning and wife, Tina, of Alexander, Ark., and Cheyne Manning of Umpire; one daughter, Carla Golden and husband, Kyle of Kirby; a sister, Faye Pate of Glendale, Ore; also grandchildren.
Services were at 10 a.m, Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013 at the Umpire Gym with Don Vaughn and Scott Kitchens officiating. Burial followed in Athens Cemetery in Athens under the direction of Latimer Funeral Home, Nashville.
Visitation was 6-8 p.m. Friday at Wilkerson Funeral Home in Dierks.
