Scrapperettes pick up OT win over Pulaski Robinson

BAUXITE – The Nashville Scrapperettes defeated Pulaski Robinson 47-44 in overtime Monday night in the opening round of the District 7-4A Tournament at Bauxite High School.

With the win, the Scrapperettes advanced to the quarterfinals of district, where they faced the host Bauxite Lady Miners Tuesday night.

Nashville swept Robinson during the regular season.

Monday night, the Lady Senators stayed close throughout the contest.

Kassidy Snowden and Shayla Wright provided most of the Scrapperettes’ points in the first quarter, which ended with Nashville on top 10-9.

Scores by Snowden, Wright, Maddie McJunkins and Breonna Jefferson gave the Scrapperettes a 19-14 lead with three minutes to go in the first half.

McJunkins and Jefferson had the Scrapperettes ahead 23-19 at halftime.

The second half opened with a 3-point shot by Snowden and 2 points from Hannah Vines. Later in the quarter, Kirby Kell gave Nashville a 30-21 lead.

By the end of the third period, Nashville held a 33-26 lead.

Turnovers and missed shots allowed Robinson to creep back into the game in the fourth quarter. The Lady Senators pulled to within 2 points with less than a minute to go in the game and tied the contest at the end of regulation, 38-38.

Snowden and McJunkins put the Scrapperettes ahead 42-38 early in the overtime period. Snowden grabbed the rebound off a missed Nashville free throw and scored to give the Scrapperettes a 6-point advantage at 44-38.

Robinson scored late in the game to narrow the gap, but free throws from Snowden, McJunkins and Wright provided the final margin of 47-44.

Snowden led the Scrapperettes with 23 points, with all but 8 coming in the second half.
